What is Climate?
Climate is the statistics of weather, usually over a 30-year interval. It is measured by assessing the patterns of variation in temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, wind, precipitation, atmospheric particle count and other meteorological variables in a given region over long periods of time. Climate differs from weather, in that weather only describes the short-term conditions of these variables in a given region.
Alberta City, Canada
I ask my cousin who live in Canada about the climate they
currently experiencing. Her name is Beatrice Salaveria Kaguyutan, 19 years old.
Lives in Red Deer, Alberta City, Canada. She is a Filipino who migrated 10
years ago with her family. The current weather there is winter that makes the
temperature so cold that it can reach negative Celsius. She said that during
winter water cannot flow through the drainage system and rivers because it is
frozen. Unlike here in the Philippines
we do not experience this cold weather but we experienced clogged drainage
system but on different reason, which is the garbage not properly disposed. In
Canada there are four seasons which is spring, summer, fall and winter, that’s
why my cousins said that they have different clothing (for cold weather, and
for hot) depends on the season. She also said that in Canada they give
importance to their environment like having proper disposal of waste. They
focus on the materials that can be recycled like boxes, bottle drinks, &
cans. The government pays 10 cents whenever you properly throw this kinds of materials.
My cousin’s favorite season is winter, she said that she likes cold weather
and she love snow even as she was a child but she also miss the climate here in
the Philippines. Winter in Canada starts on December to March, at daytime
temperature reaches below 0 degrees Celsius and even colder at night time that’s
why you should were warm clothing and hats that covers the ears. Some sports
can be enjoyed during this season like skating, skiing or building snowmen. It
is a must that all of your skin is covered whenever you are in outdoor area,
leaving the skin uncovered can cause frostbite. The advantage of having a
different season is that you can enjoy different temperatures, unlike here in
the Philippines we only experience rainy and hot season. The disadvantage is
that changing season which affect the temperature drop or rise gradually can
harm us humans. Most of the drop or rise of the temperature humans cannot handle
because of our limitation that’s why when on areas like Canada we should be
alert or updated on the climate so that we can be prepared or ready on
different temperatures.
